GST returns, e-invoicing, e-way bills and Indian payroll components are maintained alongside the core product rather than absent from the market.
Inventory, manufacturing, projects, CRM and HR sit in the same database, which is a different category of system from small-business accounting.
GPLv3 software you can host yourself does not depend on a vendor's continued commercial interest in your country.
Outside India, QuickBooks remains a strong product and there are clear cases where it beats an ERP comfortably.
For straightforward bookkeeping, bank feeds, invoicing and tax filing in the markets Intuit serves, QuickBooks is quicker to adopt and easier to run without help than any ERP.
In the US, UK, Canada and Australia, accountant familiarity is very high. A bookkeeper fluent in your system is worth more than most feature differences.
A services business with simple invoicing gets little from an ERP and pays for the complexity anyway. Buying an ERP to solve a bookkeeping problem is a costly mistake in either direction.
QuickBooks can be signed up for and used. ERPNext repays a proper implementation and expects one.
We implement ERPNext, so read this as informed but interested. If you are a small business outside India with simple books, we would tell you to stay on QuickBooks.
Intuit discontinued QuickBooks product and service offerings for accountancy and small business customers in India from 30 April 2023. The discontinuation covered QuickBooks Online, QuickBooks Online Accountant, the mobile app and QuickBooks Time. Existing customers were given a window to download their data before access ended.
Yes, if you exported it during the access window or hold an export. Chart of accounts, customers, suppliers, items and transaction history can be mapped and loaded through the ERPNext Data Import tool. If you did not export before access closed, recovery options are limited and worth checking with Intuit directly.
Yes. In the markets Intuit serves it remains a strong small-business accounting product with a polished experience and very high accountant familiarity. Its withdrawal from India was a commercial decision about that market, not a statement about the product.
The company behind it could change direction, but the software could not be taken back. ERPNext is GPLv3 with public source, so an instance you host continues to run and can be maintained by anyone competent. That is the structural difference this episode illustrates.
Often, yes, and we would say so. If your requirement is invoicing, bank reconciliation and filing with no inventory or production, an ERP is more system than the problem needs. The argument for ERPNext strengthens as scope grows beyond the ledger.
Most moved to Indian products such as Tally, BUSY or Zoho, or to an ERP where scope justified it. We have comparison pages for several of those, and the right destination depends on whether your need is accounting or operations.
A short call about what you are running now and what you actually need. Sometimes the answer is a simpler product, not an ERP.
The India discontinuation is documented by Intuit itself. Assessments of product fit are stated as assessments above.
